Qualifying in Jerez for the Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix saw Maximo Quiles continue his dominance of the weekend, topping every session he has featured in after taking pole position - his first of the season.
The Gaviota Aspar rider had already dominated both Friday sessions to move to qualifying with the best time before going on to also top the wet FP2 that launched the Saturday action by a margin, proving conditions were not an obstacle to his dominance.
Quiles stayed out when the other riders on a fast lap headed to the pits - a move on the now dry track that took the number 28 to the top of the timesheets.
Out of sync and on a different schedule, out of the pits in the last group the Spaniard had dropped to seventh - and was now tucked in behind Adrian Fernandez.
The Leopard bike slid off into the gravel but Quiles was near enough to pass before the yellow flag was raised, for a first pole start and a 1m 44.070s lap.
David Munoz marked his second attempt at a return from injury with second. The Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider was in first early on, but had that lap cancelled. Bouncing back, the Spaniard return to track determined, topping the timesheets before being bested by Quiles, finishing Q2 0.375s slower.
Alvaro Carpe, who took pole at COTA, worked mainly solo on his way to complete the front row for Red Bull KTM Ajo in third, but over half a second behind the lead time.
Joel Esteban was fourth for Level Up - MTA, initially ahead of David Almansa, who did have his lap cancelled, promoting Brian Uriarte to the position, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider was the top rookie in Q2.
Having gone well before his fall, Adrian Fernandez held onto sixth, the top Honda in the session.
Joel Kelso was seventh - the best of the riders to come up from Q1 for MLav Racing, a huge improvement on his overnight position of 21st.
Almansa dropped to eighth on the second Dynavolt bike, the first rider over a second adrift of the pole time.
Matteo Bertelle was ninth Quickest on the second Level Up - MTA entry, with Hakim Danish completing the top 10 for MT Helmets.
Scott Ogden was second early in the session, riding in behind the perfect marker in Quiles, before being one of the riders to pull into the pits. Caught up behind the yellow flag the CIP Green Power rider finished the day in 12th.
There was a further crash right at the end of the session, for Veda Pratama.
Official Spanish Moto3 Records:
Fastest race lap: Jose Antonio Rueda (2025) 1m44.352s
All time lap record: David Alonso (2024) 1m43.710s
Best Pole: Jose Antonio Rueda (2025) 1m43.755s
Q1 Kelso through, no progression for Pini
The session saw a late solo lap from Ruche Moodley (14th) lead the top four into Q2. The CODE Motorsports rider was joined by early session leader Pratama (17th), an improved Kelso after bike changes for chatter issues and Danish, who finished the session under investigation for riding slowly in front of Yamanaka.
Jesus Rios was the rider just missing out, giving Yamanaka the opposite problem, racing the MT Helmets man to the line having dropped to fifth. The Japanese rider will line up 22nd after finishing the session eighth.
Guido Pini had found himself just out of luck in 15th on Friday, missing out on Q2 by just one position.
Pini returned to the pits after getting frustrated in traffic, seemingly complaining to his Leopard mechanics of rear grip issues. After gesticulating they thrust the Italian back on track. Having already dropped from the progression slots, his last chance was full of grey sectors, leaving the Austin race winner seventh in the session, for 21st on the grid.
Eddie O’Shea starts from 23rd after finishing the session in the pits with an issue.
There was only one faller in Q1 - Leo Rammennstorfer.
