Moto3 launched the Sunday action in Jerez with a race that was full of battles from start to finish, with Maximo Quiles pulling away for a win on home soil.

Launching from pole after dominating the weekend, Maximo Quiles lead an all Spanish top six on the grid at Jerez. The Aspar rider saw his qualifying advantage quickly evaporate as he found himself tussling for the lead in a trio, with Adrian Fernandez and David Munoz.

The number 28 was struggling with his KTM in the early laps, often seen running wide or with his leg off the bike for correction. Stablising at the back of the group, Quiles was ready to make his move back to the front with five laps remaining, through turn one.

The Murcian rider never looked back and controlled the closing laps, finishing almost two seconds clear of the three way photo finish for second.

It was to be Fernandez, who started sixth and came under investigation, though cleared, early in the race for ending Matteo Bertelle’s chances at turn one on the first lap, who was to finish second.

He fought old adversary David Munoz, who his contact with last season saw the Dynavolt rider out of action with with injury woes for an extended spell, fighting all the way to the line. The Leopard rider held on after contact from Munoz’s shoulder to finish as top Honda.

Munoz was third for an all Spanish podium in Jerez, but the duo had been joined over the closing stages by Marco Morelli after he powered forward from his eleventh placed start.

Pushing hard on the second Gaviota Aspar bike Morelli bridged the gap to the leaders - as high as second before losing out in the drag to the line.

Alvaro Carpe was the best of the rest, almost ten seconds behind the leaders in fifth for Red Bull KTM Ajo.

Veda Pratama impressed as top rookie, a huge ride from 17th on the grid took the Honda Team Asia rider up to sixth.

Another rookie took the chequered flag behind, however, Jesus Rios was handed a two position demotion after the race for a late move on Valentin Perrone, pushing the Snipers rider back to ninth after he too had sliced through the opposition from a 19th placed grid start.

That elevated Perrone to seventh for Red Bull KTM Tech3, and David Almansa up to eighth for Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP, with Joel Esteban completing the top ten for Level UP - MTA.

Brian Uriarte spent much of the race as top rookie before he was forced wide by Esteban, who had to drop a position in the race for his move, ending up in 11th for Red Bull KTM Ajo.

Casey O’Gorman was 12th for SIC58 Squadra Corse, just ahead of fellow newcomer Hakim Danish, who was 13th for MT Helmets.

The remaining points on offer went to Joel Kelso in 14th for MLav Racing and Rico Salmela in 15th for Red Bull KTM Tech 3, clear on track of 16th placed Scott Ogden.

Crashes, injuries and replacements

Leo Rammenstorfer never got started as the lights were held on red at the start of the race to pull his bike off the track.

Austin race winner Guido Pini was up against it for a repeat performance, the Leopard rider failed to make it out of Q1, starting 21st. The Italian had worked his way up to 15th but was on the limit doing so, crashing out on lap eight, with Niccolo Carraro lasting just one lap longer.

Championship Standings

Quiles added a full 25 points to his tally extending his lead to 37 points, with a total of 90 gained so far this season. Carpe remained second overall on 53, with Fernandez up to third on 49 points.

Perrone (47 points) and Morelli (45 points) complete the top five.

Pratama is the top rookie in the overall standings after another strong performance, on a total of 37 in sixth. Nearest rival Uriarte has amassed 28 points after the Jerez round.
