$40,000 motorcycle to be won in Burt Munro Challenge raffle

A $40,000 motorcycle is up for grabs as the Burt Munro Challenge aims to support a new generation of racers. This year’s event features a raffle for a new 2025 Yamaha R6 race bike to help fund the road racing endeavours of young Southlanders.

Boasting a range of aftermarket modifications, the machine has been prepped to New Zealand Superbike Championship (NZSBK) superstock specifications.

Adding a uniquely Southland vibe, it has been designed as an exclusive ‘MacAttack’ replica, celebrating the six NZSBK titles won by homegrown talent Cormac Buchanan, including two SuperSport 600 championships on an identical bike.

Limited to just 1200 in total, raffle tickets are $100 each and available online through the shop section at www.burtmunrochallenge.co.nz or on-site at various events during the Burt Munro Challenge.

The winner will be drawn on Sunday, 8 February, during the E Hayes Teretonga Sprint Races.

Burt Munro Challenge committee chair Bill Moffatt said the objective of the raffle resonated with the spirit of Burt Munro.

“The legend of Burt taking on the world from Invercargill is well documented. This initiative gives us a platform to help fuel the dreams of the next generation aiming to do exactly that. Just as Burt chased what many said was impossible and put Invercargill on the world stage in the process, today’s young Southland road racers are pushing boundaries of their own. Everyone buying a raffle ticket helps them compete internationally, carrying Burt’s legacy into the future. And one lucky person is going to win the ride of a lifetime.”

Moffatt said geographical location was no barrier to success in motorcycle racing.

“Burt created an incredible legacy during his time racing and now riders like Cormac are proving what’s possible in the modern era. Cormac started out racing at the Burt and has competed in speedway, road racing and was even our youngest competitor to tackle the Bluff Hill Climb. Now just a few years later he’s about to start his second season in the Moto3 World Championship. It shows what’s possible when your determined enough to chase a dream.”
