FIM WSX 2025
Round Five – Cape Town, South Africa
The 2025 FIM World Supercross Championship reached its conclusion in Cape Town. We bring you the FIM WSX race results, reports and final World SX championship points.
SX1 Race One – Sprint
Joey Savatgy and Jason Anderson both got out of the blocks well, but Anderson jumped off the side of the track on the exit of turn one and actually missed the entire first rhythm section as he rode the Suzuki down the outside of the track on the concrete before rejoining the racing surface in second position. Christian Craig and Luke Clout were running third and fourth early on, but late in the opening lap, Craig went down and lost a number of positions.
Joey Savatgy chasing Jason AndersonAnderson recovered from his early mistake to stretch away from Savatgy and take the race win, a result that certainly didn’t look fair from where I was sitting. Anderson was certainly quicker, but he had spent a fair bit of time riding down the concrete rather than on the racing surface on lap one and was not penalised for that transgression.
Luke Clout held down third place for much of the race but was pushed off the podium on the final lap by Colt Nichols.
Christian Craig recovered from his early crash to secure fifth.

SX1 Race Two – Sprint
Stark riders Jorge Zaragoza and Vince Friese shot out of the blocks fastest into turn one, but Friese then overshot while Jason Anderson took the inside line to emerge as the early leader ahead of Zaragoza, Friese and Luke Clout.
Christian Craig again went down early on and made life hard for himself, while fellow championship contender Joey Savatgy was down in sixth at the end of lap one and also facing an uphill battle.
Joey Savatgy steadily worked his way forward to be up to fourth by the halfway point before then working his way past Luke Clout, Vince Friese, and finally Jorge Zaragoza on the final lap to claim second.
Luke Clout got the better of Vince Friese on the final lap to claim fourth.
While Friese took the chequered flag in fifth position, he was later penalised for exceeding the maximum energy allowance permitted for the Stark and demoted to tenth.
Jason Anderson the winner by 2.4-seconds.

SX1 Race Three – Main
Joey Savatgy and Christian Craig got away well in the championship-deciding big points race of the night ahead of Jason Anderson and Luke Clout. Anderson made short work of Craig to set up a two-way title-deciding battle between himself and Savatgy.
Savatgy actually sneaked away from Anderson a little on laps two and three, but the Suzuki man then let it all hang out in his quest to reel the Honda man in. Anderson was loose but showed incredible bike control to stay upright amidst some sizeable moments before then jumping into the lead late on lap four.
Jason Anderson and Joey SavatgyJust when it looked as though Anderson might break away, Savatgy managed to nose ahead briefly, the pair then made contact, which sent Anderson briefly off the circuit and saw Savatgy take the lead at the halfway point of the 12-lap contest. The tussles between that pair allowed Christian Craig back into the game.
Joey Savatgy had just over a second on Anderson as they started lap seven, but the Suzuki man chased him down again. Fearing a take-out from Anderson, Savatgy slowed up and allowed the #21 to cut under him rather than get barged out of the way. Savatgy opened the door, Anderson walked right on through and then ran away with the 2025 FIM World Supercross Championship. Savatgy must be left ruing that decision to check up and allow Anderson through rather than force the issue at that point. Savatgy did come back at Anderson late on the final lap, much to the delight of the South African crowd, but it was the Suzuki man that got to the chequered flag first.
Christian Craig completed the race and championship podium, but fourth place in the final race was enough to secure Colt Nichols the round podium.
A great round for Luke Clout, the Kawasaki rider, securing fifth for the round.

SX2 Race One – Sprint
Shane McElrath took the holeshot ahead of Enzo Lopes and championship leader Max Anstie. McElrath went on to break away to a clear victory with Max Anstie second and Cullin Park rounding out the podium.
That second place in the opening bout was enough for Anstie to secure the SX2 Championship before the final two bouts of the night.

SX2 Race Two – Sprint
With the championship already wrapped up, Max Anstie had nothing to lose in the second bout and ran Shane McElrath hard, but ultimately the Honda man had enough to hold him at bay to secure the victory. Enzo Lopes completed the podium.
