2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale

Vince Friese launched his Kawasaki to the front on the run through turn one with Ken Roczen and Hunter Lawrence flanking him, but it was Lawrence who found the superior exit. The Honda rider sprinted clear to seize the early lead on a fast and flowing Glendale layout.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale

Drama unfolded immediately behind as championship points leader Eli Tomac went down in a first-turn incident involving Christian Craig and Colt Nichols. Tomac was the last of the trio to remount, prompting early concern that the KTM rider may have been injured in the crash.

Further back, Chase Sexton and Aaron Plessinger found themselves outside the top ten in the opening laps.

Cooper Webb pushed Friese back to fourth late on lap one, with Justin Cooper slotting into fifth ahead of Jorge Prado, Dylan Ferrandis and Malcolm Stewart.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Ken Roczen and Hunter Lawrence

At the front, little separated Lawrence, Roczen and Webb during the early exchanges. Roczen made his move on lap four, taking the lead from Lawrence as the leading duo began to edge clear of Webb.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Ken Roczen and Hunter Lawrence

By the halfway mark, Roczen had asserted control and proved untouchable. The German went on to claim victory by three seconds over Lawrence, who himself had built a commanding 13-second buffer over Webb in third.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Ken Roczen

Justin Cooper continued his consistent form with a solid fourth-place finish, well clear of Prado and Joey Savatgy.

It was a subdued outing for Chase Sexton, who never truly looked in contention. His seventh-place finish amounted to damage limitation as he now turns his focus to Seattle in an effort to keep his championship challenge alive.

Plessinger brought his KTM home eighth ahead of Ferrandis, while Justin Hill rounded out the top ten in front of Jason Anderson.

After the opening-lap crash, Tomac took time to find his rhythm, gradually increased his pace, and was running competitively in the closing stages. He ultimately salvaged 12th place and ten valuable points, slipping from first to third in the championship standings. The important part is that he is uninjured and still capable of winning race pace on the KTM.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Hunter Lawrence

Leaving Arizona with the red plate is Hunter Lawrence. The 26-year-old has now finished second in four consecutive races and will be determined to convert that consistency into a maiden win next time out in Seattle.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – 450 Podium

Roczen’s Glendale triumph marked the fourth different winner in five races and moved him to within five points of Lawrence in the championship chase.

Only 17 points cover the top five in the championship with the quiet assassin Cooper Webb in fourth and Chase Sexton fifth.

Quotes

Ken Roczen

“This feels unreal. I got a good start and then Friese cut me off going into the first turn, which I expected, which slowed my momentum a little bit. [Eventually] I was able to pass Hunter [Lawrence] and I knew it was going to be a long Main Event because trying to put a gap [on the field] was really hard and the track was tricky. It was just so fast, and everything was built super tall. I’m just really happy. I want to dedicate this win specifically to Larry [Brooks]. He hasn’t been able to be with us here the last few races. It really hurts all of our hearts. He loves this more than anybody. This one goes out to him.”

Hunter Lawrence

“It’s bittersweet. I got a great start and was in a great position. Kenny [Roczen] was riding unreal tonight. He was riding a lot better than me in the first 10 minutes and opened that gap. I just didn’t quite have it. I didn’t feel amazing, just flat, but not bad. We’ll take it. [Getting] the red plate is cool, but we’ve got a long season ahead.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Hunter Lawrence
Cooper Webb

“It was a good night overall. I think we know this hasn’t always been my best place [results wise], so I was really happy with that result. Kenny [Roczen] was riding awesome and I was right there with Hunter [Lawrence] for a bit and then he started inching away. I fell into a bit of a no-man’s land and took it for a third. I’m happy with that. Happy to leave here with good points. A podium here is a win for me.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Cooper Webb
Jorge Prado

“My start was actually very good, it was just that I didn’t have much space entering the first corner. But still, I managed to get around the turn decently, and then I was battling back and forth with Justin [Cooper], which made me get a little bit tight. I ended up bringing it home in P5, which I would say is a solid night. We’re getting better and better with P1 in qualifying and the Heat Race, and then fifth in the Main Event is a good progression. I am happy with my riding and effort, so thanks to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team – they’re doing a great job, we have a great bike, and hopefully I can put it on the box again soon.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Jorge Prado
Aaron Plessinger

“Glendale was a step in the right direction. The result may not show it, but the last few weeks have been really tough, so this week was a lot better as a stepping stone and I think we are on the way to turning things around. I felt better on the bike – that was my first 20-minute moto since San Diego – and it is safe to say that things have been up and down. But, either way, we are moving forward, and that’s a positive for us. We’ll go back, do some more homework this week, and show up for Seattle! I’m ready to go.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Aaron Plessinger
Dylan Ferrandis

“It was overall a very difficult day for me. I came to this race a little sick. Then 1st practice, I was hit by a rock… and I cut my eyebrow and I had to pull out from the practice to go stitches. So we lost one full practice and track time and was struggling a lot with a good feeling on the track. I had great starts every time we were on track, so that was very, very positive for today. I struggled a bit with the bike set up, and I made some change for main event and It was better. It was a bad beginning of the day but We salvaged to make at least the same result as my best result so far.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Dylan Ferrandis
Eli Tomac

“I put myself in a position where bad things can happen. I got a little pinched at the start and then got taken out – so I don’t know what happened before that, all I know is, I was done. It took me a little while to get warmed up again, kind of got my body loosened up and going, and that’s what I had to get back to 12th. The good thing is, we’re not too far down – we’re fine – so we’ll just have to do some digging now.”

Cameron McAdoo, Michael Mosiman and Haiden Deegan all charged into turn one at the front, but it was Deegan who emerged with the superior line and rocketed clear on the exit. From there, the points leader immediately found his rhythm and began to assert control. Ryder DiFrancesco also launched well and soon displaced McAdoo to move into third.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale

Levi Kitchen, by contrast, was buried deep in the field on the opening lap, circulating as low as 19th, but immediately began carving his way forward and was already up to tenth within the opening laps. Max Anstie also found himself mired mid-pack early on and unable to make immediate progress.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Levi Kitchen

Five minutes into the race, McAdoo reclaimed third from DiFrancesco, while at the halfway mark, Deegan had stretched a 3.5-second advantage over Mosiman, with DiFrancesco a similar margin further back. Behind them, Kitchen’s charge was becoming the story of the race as he surged into fifth and began circulating at the fastest pace of anyone on the track.

Kitchen soon hunted down DiFrancesco to take fourth and showed no signs of stopping there. He then moved past team-mate McAdoo before setting his sights on Mosiman. Once he caught the Star Yamaha rider, Kitchen made short work of the pass to claim second place, underlining just how formidable his pace was after the early setback.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Haiden Deegan

Out front, however, Deegan remained untroubled. With the gap managed precisely, he never needed to respond to Kitchen’s late-race charge. While the crowd was left wondering what might have been without Kitchen’s poor start, Deegan executed a flawless ride from gate drop to chequered flag, never giving his rivals a genuine opportunity.

Cam McAdoo completed the podium in what was a repeat rostrum that mimicked the results from Houston a week prior.

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – 250 Podium

Mosiman, who had held second for the majority of the race, faded to fourth in the closing stages. DiFrancesco slipped back to sixth, well clear of Max Vohland and Hunter Yoder.

It was a disappointing night for Max Anstie, who finished eighth and surrendered a couple of positions in the championship standings as his early-season momentum stalled.

Next up is Seattle’s Lumen Field, before the 250 class switches to the East Coast for Arlington, Texas.

Quotes

Haiden Deegan

“These races have been solid. Lots of hard work with the family and the team. Thank you to Yamaha and the whole Star Racing team. My bike is amazing. This feels good. The hard work I put in this offseason has paid off. It shows who works hard and who doesn’t.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Haiden Deegan
Levi Kitchen

“Yeah, it was a good night. There were a lot of positives, but there was also a negative, and I can’t keep doing that. Track position is super important, and I did put myself there, but I felt good on the bike every race. I’ve just got to keep working and keep trying. I’m going to keep fighting. Thanks to the whole Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki team for sticking behind me, along with my friends and family. I’m excited to get back to work with a home race next weekend. That’ll be fun, and maybe a little mud would be nice. Thanks to the fans in Glendale, and I’ll see you next week.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Levi Kitchen
Cameron McAdoo

“I had to fight for that one. I got myself into third early, dropped back, and then just kept digging. With a few laps to go, I knew I had more in the tank and made it happen. Having my sister here meant a lot, and that gave me some extra motivation. I can’t thank my team enough for sticking behind me through the early rounds. This one was special, and it felt great to put two Pro Circuit bikes on the podium again.”

2026 AMA SX Championship – Round Five – Glendale – Cameron McAdoo
Ryder DiFrancesco

“Glendale was good. I started off the day really fast in qualifying and then ended up going down in the Heat Race, but managed to fight my way back to eighth. That gave me a bad gate pick, but I positioned myself really well, actually, to start the Main Event. I ran third for a while, and lost a couple of places from there, so we have some work that needs doing between now and the next one, but I like the ruts and I like Seattle. We’ll make some tweaks and come out swinging next weekend!”
