Daytona injuries sideline Davey Todd from TT 2026
Davey Todd will miss the 2026 Isle of Man TT after being declared medically unfit to compete by the event’s Medical Team, following ongoing assessment of the injuries he sustained in an incident at the Daytona 200 in March.
The decision comes only a week after Todd was also ruled out of the 2026 North West 200. The North West 200’s Chief Medical Officer examined Todd during race week and declared him unfit to take part, with race director Mervyn Whyte noting at the time that safety had to take priority despite the disappointment for Todd and his supporters.
Todd, the 30-year-old from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, suffered multiple injuries in the Daytona accident, including fractures to his femur, tibia, foot and nose. He initially underwent surgery in the United States before embarking on an intensive rehabilitation program at Formula Medicine in Italy.
Throughout his recovery, Todd remained in contact with the TT Medical Team, with his treating clinicians liaising with Manx Roadracing Medical Services, the organisation responsible for providing medical services for the Isle of Man TT Races on behalf of ACU Events Ltd.
Although Todd’s rehabilitation and functional recovery had progressed positively in recent weeks, a specialist review panel comprising Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery expertise concluded that his injuries would not recover sufficiently in time to safely withstand the demands of the TT Course.
Davey Todd – 2025 Isle of Man TT – Superbike Race One winnerThe news is a major sporting blow, but also a significant professional and financial hit for Todd personally. For top-level road racers, events such as the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT are not just the centrepieces of the calendar; they are also key earning windows. Start money, prize money, team arrangements, sponsor exposure and bonuses can make up a large part of a road racer’s year. The Senior TT winner’s purse is over £25,000, and the Superbike TT winner pockets just under that.
Davey Todd and Peter Hickman – 2025 Isle of Man TT – Superbike Race OneFor Todd, who won the Superbike TT last year and has rapidly become one of the modern benchmark riders on the Mountain Course, missing both the North West 200 and the TT removes two of the most important competitive and commercial opportunities of his season.
Todd said the decision had been a bitter one to accept.
“I’m absolutely gutted to say I’m not going to be on the start line for TT 2026, especially given all the work that’s gone in over the last nine weeks.
“I’ve done everything possible to get myself into a position to race, and I’m so grateful to everyone involved in my treatment at Formula Medicine in Italy, plus the awesome support from BMW Motorrad, Monster Energy, and all the amazing people around me.
“We’ve left no stone unturned and tried everything possible with the goal of being back for the TT, but unfortunately we’ve just run out of time.
“The focus now shifts to next year so I can come back stronger than ever. In the meantime, I’ll be supporting my 8TEN Racing team from the sidelines.”
8Ten Racing with Peter Hickman and Davey Todd have dominated the ‘roads’ in recent yearsTodd’s absence removes one of the TT’s headline contenders from the 2026 entry.
For now, Todd’s target shifts from trying to rescue his 2026 campaign to ensuring he is ready to return properly in 2027. Given the severity of the injuries sustained at Daytona, the medical call is understandable, but that will do little to ease the frustration for Todd, his team, or the many fans who had hoped to see the defending Superbike TT winner back on the Island this year.
