Round Two – SMSP – Kawasaki Supersport
After a commanding display in Saturday’s opening Kawasaki Supersport/Next Gen encounter, onlookers were eager to see if anyone could lay a glove on Jake Farnsworth in the second and final 11-lap bout on Saturday night at SMSP. The Worth Racing Yamaha rider converted pole into total control in Race 1, leading every lap and breaking the field with a relentless pace that included a 1m32.343 fastest lap and a winning margin of 5.836 seconds. It was the sort of performance that leaves the rest of the field searching for answers.

With Farnsworth having stamped himself as the rider to beat, the focus heading into race two shifted to whether he can repeat the dose, or whether the chasing pack can turn a frantic podium battle into a genuine fight for outright honours.

Sydney Motorsport Park’s floodlights provided the backdrop for Supersport Race Two, with the field forming up for a 2000 Saturday night start. After experiencing engine problems in race one, Tom Toparis was absent from the grid as they formed up for race two.

Farnsworth covered them off to retain the advantage, and before the opening lap was complete, the leading quartet had already begun to edge clear of the rest of the field, with Hayden Nelson doing his best to stay in touch in fifth.

Edwards then moved Simpson back to third and immediately set about chasing down Farnsworth, dropping into the 1m32s to signal his intent.

That battle was now unfolding around three seconds behind Farnsworth, and two seconds adrift of Edwards.
ASBK 2026 – Round Two – SMSP – Supersport Race Two – Image RbMotoLensAlthough Edwards was matching Farnsworth’s pace lap after lap, it initially was not enough to eat into the leader’s margin. That changed on lap six, when Edwards produced a 1m32.302 to reduce the gap to less than a second for the first time as the race moved into its closing stages.

By the start of the penultimate lap, the gap was down to little more than five bike lengths. Edwards remained right there at the final lap board and got a strong drive through turns one and two to close onto Farnsworth’s tail, but the leader was able to respond around the back of the circuit and hold on for victory.
The fight for the final podium position was just as intense. Nelson emerged best in a fierce multi-rider contest, timing his run perfectly to claim third at the flag. He edged clear of Knezovic and Simpson on the final lap to secure the last step on the rostrum.
