Round Four – Morgan Park – Saturday
SW-Motech Superbike Qualifying

Harrison Voight will start from pole position at Morgan Park after leading a McMartin Racing Ducati one-two in ASBK Superbike qualifying, the championship leader heading Josh Waters by 0.146 seconds.

Some of ASBK’s heaviest hitters had not turned a wheel on Friday’s damp and misty opening day, leaving Saturday morning’s FP4 as their first taste of the Warwick circuit for the weekend. Jack Favelle topped that 30-minute session for Addicted to Track, ahead of Voight and Waters, with Friday pacesetter John Lytras fourth from the Yamaha Racing Team pairing of Mike Jones and Jonathan Nahlous.

The opening 20-minute qualifying session saw most riders keep their laps to a minimum. The top four set their best times on their only flying laps to secure a place in Q2, although with only 13 riders taking to the track, only Josh Newman missed the cut. Marcus Hamod had earlier withdrawn from Saturday’s running after being taken ill.

After a short break, Q2 began with the track temperature past 30 degrees, and Favelle fired the first serious shot, a 1m12.911 on his opening flying lap, setting the early target. Voight responded with a 1m12.610 to move the benchmark on, while neither Waters nor Jones could dislodge Favelle from second on their first runs.

The final sequence came after the pit stops. Voight lowered the mark to 1m12.417 on his sixth lap, Jones improved to 1m12.863 to push Favelle back to third, and Waters then produced a 1m12.563 to make it a McMartin Racing Ducati one-two with just over four minutes remaining.

Those four were the only riders to break into the 1m12s, while Mike Jones’ 1m12.079 qualifying record from 2023 remained untroubled.

Lytras will start from the middle of the second row after qualifying fifth, alongside late improver Jonathan Nahlous, who produced a 1m13.082 on his final lap.

Cameron Dunker will head row three alongside veteran campaigner Glenn Allerton and Cru Halliday, while Olly Simpson, Ty Lynch and Luca Durning complete the top 12.

The first of Sunday’s two 16-lap Superbike races is scheduled for 1125, with the final race of the weekend slated for 1440.

With a disappointingly small field, Morgan Park presents a strong opportunity for several riders to bank useful points before the Queensland Raceway season finale late next month.

Valentino Knezovic was next on a 1m15.784, putting the two leading Supersport title protagonists third and fourth on the combined sheet.

Tom Edwards had been the Friday pacesetter and remained in the front group, but the amended results carried an important note: Tom’s lap times after his pit stop in Q2 were removed due to the use of unmarked tyres. Edwards still qualified fifth overall on his Q1 marker of 1m15.897, while BCperformance Kawasaki team-mate Hayden Nelson improved in Q2 to 1m15.973 for sixth.

Supersport 300

Riley Nauta secured the Race and Road Supersport 300 qualifying benchmark at Morgan Park, his 1m23.777 from Q1 standing firm across the combined qualifying order.

Matthew Ritter was the fastest rider in Q2, putting in a 1m24.253 on the Kawasaki Ninja to move to second overall. Championship leader Tyler King was third on a 1m24.681, only three-thousandths quicker across combined qualifying than his Q1 lap, while Orlando Peovitis and Phoenix O’Brien completed the top five.

The Q2 session was run in considerably more representative conditions than Friday practice, with a dry track and a track temperature of 30.6 degrees. Ritter led that session from King, Peovitis, O’Brien and Tara Morrison, but Nauta’s earlier lap remained the clear standout of the class.

With King third, Nauta on pole, and Peovitis fourth, the key championship players will start right in the thick of the lead group, while the depth of the Supersport 300 field again points towards a busy opening lap around Morgan Park’s tight layout.

R3 Cup

Ethan Dellow claimed the Yamaha BLU CRU R3 Cup qualifying honours at Morgan Park, producing a 1m24.416 in Q2 to top the merged classification by more than six-tenths.

Connor Lewis was second on a 1m25.089, with Nikolas Lazos third on a 1m25.145 and Friday pacesetter Oscar Lewis fourth on a 1m25.152. Jordy Simpson and Matthew Ritter completed the top six, with less than a quarter of a second covering positions two through six.

Dellow built towards his best late in Q2, going 1m24.913, then 1m24.599, before finding the 1m24.416 that settled the session. The lap also put him well clear in a class that is often decided by packs and fine margins.

Seth Dellow and Zac Russo both crashed at Turn 10 during Q2, with both riders reported as up. Seth Dellow’s Q1 lap still kept him seventh on the combined qualifying order, while Russo qualified 11th.
