Round Nine – Indy

Hunter Lawrence has taken his second win of the 2026 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season, claiming the Indianapolis Triple Crown (Round 9) inside Lucas Oil Stadium after edging Eli Tomac on the Race 3 tie-break. Lawrence’s 2-4-1 scorecard tied Tomac on seven points (Tomac 3-2-2), with the final-race result deciding the overall.

Ken Roczen won the opening 450 race, Justin Cooper took Race 2, and Lawrence closed it out with the Race 3 win that delivered the overall.

The result extends Lawrence’s championship lead to four points over Tomac, with Cooper Webb third, a further 25 points back after nine rounds.

In the Eastern division 250 Triple Crown, New Zealander Cole Davies delivered a clean 1-1-1 sweep for the overall ahead of Jo Shimoda and Seth Hammaker.

Davies now leads the 250SX East standings by one point over Hammaker, with Pierce Brown and Shimoda tied a further point back.

Ken Roczen controlled the opening 12-minute plus one-lap 450 Triple Crown race in Indianapolis, slicing to the front early and then riding away to a comfortable 5.4-second win. Behind the German, it was far more frantic, with the main title players trading positions as the podium picture shifted through the middle stages.

When it settled, Hunter Lawrence banked a valuable second place, while Eli Tomac recovered from a start outside the top 10 to grab third.

Cooper Webb spent much of the race in second before being shuffled back to fourth late, with Justin Cooper completing the top five.

Race 2 turned the night on its head on the opening lap. Ken Roczen mistimed a rhythm lane and came down on Aaron Plessinger, ending Plessinger’s race on the spot and sending Roczen to the back of the field, effectively taking the Suzuki rider out of overall contention.

Up front, Eli Tomac looked set to capitalise after moving past early leader Justin Cooper, but the Yamaha rider regrouped, found his flow and fought his way back in. Cooper then made a decisive pass to retake the lead and pulled clear to win by 3.5 seconds from Tomac.

Cooper Webb rode a relatively drama-free race to third, while Hunter Lawrence lost ground after a costly moment in lapped traffic, dropping from third to fourth.

Race 3 was the decider, and Hunter Lawrence and Eli Tomac made sure they were in position early. With the track breaking down and clean air at a premium, Lawrence’s holeshot was crucial, giving him immediate control at the front with Tomac tucked in behind.

As the race settled, Lawrence began to edge away, managing lapped traffic more cleanly and stretching the margin as the clock ran down. Tomac stayed in touch but couldn’t close the gap, while Ken Roczen rebounded from his Race 2 drama to run a steady third. Behind them, Yamaha teammates Cooper Webb and Justin Cooper went at it for fourth, with Webb holding firm.

Hunter Lawrence completed a wire-to-wire win by 5.5 seconds over Tomac, sealing the overall on the night’s final dash.

Lawrence saved his strongest ride for when it mattered most, and that final-race win delivered the overall Indy Triple Crown. He and Tomac finished the night tied on seven points, but Lawrence’s 2-4-1 scorecard got the nod over Tomac’s 3-2-2 on the Race 3 tie-break.

Cooper Webb and Justin Cooper were also level on 11 points for third overall, with Webb awarded the podium spot on the tie-break courtesy of his 4-3-4 finishes over Cooper’s 5-1-5.

The result was a key one for Lawrence in the championship context, extending his lead to four points over Tomac heading into the

Quotes

Hunter Lawrence – P1

“This win means a lot. This is my fifth day riding in a row this week, testing with the team. Those guys will never give up, nor will I. This is the ultimate thank you for going through the wringer this week, riding five days in a row, and coming out and performing tonight. This is cool. It’s a Triple Crown, so it’s a tough one.”

Eli Tomac – P2

“I made one mistake [in the final race], and Hunter [Lawrence] pulled out a second or two. I just wasn’t able to bring that back. I had a sketchy moment in the whoops and feel like I lost the race there. I started jumping but got a little squirrely and then started skimming again at the end and it was better. I don’t know, I’m glad to get out of here [with a good finish]. It’s just a tough night of racing here with the Triple Crown and this soil.”

Cooper Webb – P3

“Overall, it was kind of a plateau night for me across the board. I’m bummed because I felt great yesterday and today, so I’m pretty bummed with those results, if I’m being honest. I felt like I could come in and compete tonight, but those two ahead of me were on another level. We’ve got work to do and will try to get better. We’ll keep our head down. There’s a lot of racing left and anything can happen.”

2026 AMA SX – Round Nine – Indianapolis
Jorge Prado – P6

“My first round back at Indianapolis was a very solid day – I’m happy with P6 overall with three sixth-place scores across the finals. I was also P4 in practice and had solid starts all night, so I’m obviously not 100 per cent yet, but I think that given how I felt this weekend, I really optimised everything. It was important to gain experience in racing a track like this for the future. I’m happy to come out of here with a solid result and then get one weekend off where we will put in a lot of work, and then enter the next round way better.”

Malcolm Stewart – P7

“Indy as a Triple Crown is always going to make for an interesting night! The track breaks down quite a bit, but we did the best we could with a seventh-place result tonight. My starts were good in Races 2 and 3, and overall I didn’t feel bad, but it was one of those tracks where mistakes were easily made. If you got out of the rhythm, you could lose a lot of time, which happened to me a couple of times. It wasn’t a bad race though, we made a lot of progress throughout this week and with one weekend off, we’ll enjoy the break and then get back to work!”

Aaron Plessinger – P19

“My day was going alright in Indianapolis and I felt we made some steps forward throughout qualifying. I climbed up to eighth in the first race, which was good, given where I started – I felt I rode pretty well. And then in Race 2, I got a pretty good start inside the top-five before Kenny [Roczen] slid on one of the on-offs, then he went double while I tripled, which had me plough directly into his back tire on the next jump. It took me off the bike and now I have a pretty good bruise on my right arm where his tire hit me, but as bad as it was, I think I got pretty lucky to get away from that one with nothing broken. We didn’t do the third race, which was unfortunate, although now having a weekend off, we’ll keep up the work and keep grinding.”

Indianapolis marked the 250 East division’s first Triple Crown of the season, and it became a breakout night for Cole Davies. The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider finally converted his pace into results, controlling Race 1 to win by two seconds from Jo Shimoda, with Seth Hammaker third. The shock in the opener was that points leader Pierce Brown only managed 10th after a disastrous start left him charging through from last.

2026 AMA SX – Round Nine – Indianapolis

The second contest was far more combative. With Jalek Swoll leading early, Davies and Shimoda went bar-to-bar as they searched for a way through, swapping positions before Davies got the upper hand, cleared Swoll and took a second straight win. Shimoda chased hard but finished 2.2 seconds back, while Brown rebounded to third. Hammaker’s night took a hit with an early crash that left him ninth.

2026 AMA SX – Round Nine – Indianapolis

Davies then sealed it in the deciding third race. After another solid start, the Kiwi worked his way forward, reeled Swoll in again and made the pass for the lead before sprinting clear. Behind him, Shimoda battled Devin Simonson for third before moving up to second late, bringing Hammaker with him. On the final lap, Hammaker attacked, passed Shimoda and briefly closed Davies down, but Davies held on to complete the 1-1-1 sweep, winning Race 3 by just 0.8s from Hammaker, with Shimoda third and Brown fourth.

2026 AMA SX – Round Nine – Indianapolis

Overall, Davies’ perfect scoreline delivered his first Triple Crown win of the year. Shimoda was second overall on 2-2-3, with Hammaker salvaging third overall despite the Race 2 setback (3-9-2). Brown missed the podium for the first time this season, ending fifth overall (10-3-4).

2026 AMA SX – Round Nine – Indianapolis – Cole Davies

The title picture tightened again, too, with four riders now within two points, Davies leading by a single point from Hammaker, while Brown and Shimoda are tied for third, two points back heading into the season’s first East/West Showdown.

Cole Davies – P1

“I guess I was just too excited to go [to start the season] and was a bit too antsy [on the track], but we settled down a bit. I just let the race come to me [tonight] and made some passes in every race. I’m just stoked. It’s a bit of a relief now. I’ve been pissed off at all the rounds, getting beat, and I don’t do well with that. It’s good to come back and have a good Triple Crown.”

Jo Shimoda – P2

“I think I got decent starts today. Not the best ones, but I was able to sneak around the inside and get up in the front. I pulled it off as much as I could, but I just need to ride faster. I need to update myself and the bike and we should be good. There’s a lot more to go.”

Seth Hammaker – P3

“It was a pretty hectic night.I just couldn’t get off the gate too well, which put me in some tough positions early. I crashed in the whoops in the second main but made a good comeback there. Overall, I’m glad we were able to salvage the podium. I’m second in the championship points now, so that’s good. Huge thanks to my whole team and everyone who sticks behind me. We’ll come back after the break, ready for the showdown.”
