Honda Team Asia has called upon Australia’s Jacob Roulstone to ride one of its bikes in Hungary at Balaton Park.

‘Motivated and eager’ Roulstone receives Moto2 call-up Jacob Roulstone will ride for Honda Team Asia in Hungary.

Roulstone replaces Indonesian rider Mario Aji, who underwent surgery in May for a cervical fracture affecting the C6 and C7 vertebrae.

Aji was not replaced for the races at Barcelona and Mugello, with the team fielding the sole Kalex for Taiyo Furusato.

It marks Roulstone’s return to the MotoGP after losing his Moto3 ride with KTM at the end of 2025.

Roulstone has since raced in the Moto2 European Championship, a seven-round calendar that features two races per weekend under the FIM Moto Junior World Championship banner.

“I’m really looking forward to starting this new adventure with Idemitsu Honda Team Asia,” Roulstone said.

“First of all, I would like to wish Mario a safe and speedy recovery. It’s never nice to see another rider injured, and I hope he can return to racing as soon as possible.

“I would also like to thank Idemitsu Honda Team Asia and HRC for giving me this opportunity.

“It will be a completely new experience for me, and I know there will be a lot to learn, but I’m excited for the challenge.

“My goal is to work closely with the team, absorb as much information as possible and continue developing my understanding of the Moto2 bike.

“I can’t wait to meet everyone and start working together this weekend.”

Honda Team Asia boss Hiroshi Aoyama welcomed Roulstone’s appointment.

“We now arrive at Balaton Park in Hungary, a completely different circuit compared to the others on the calendar,” Aoyama said.

“The track is quite flat and has a very unique layout, so it will be a new challenge for everyone. Taiyo is still a rookie in Moto2 and has never raced here before, which means we will need to work carefully from the first session to understand the track and build confidence.

“Mario is unfortunately still unable to return, so we welcome Jacob Roulstone to the team this weekend.

“It will be our first time working together, and for him it will also be a new experience in Moto2 Grand Prix racing. We know he is motivated and eager to learn.

“Our objective is to help both riders adapt as quickly as possible and make steady progress throughout the weekend.”

Roulstone will be one of two Australians in the field alongside Intact GP rider Senna Agius.

Moto2 races on Sunday at 8:15pm AEST with coverage live and exclusively on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports.
