2026 AMA Supercross Championship

Round 11 – Detroit, Michigan

Supercross returned to Detroit for Round 11 of the Monster Energy SMX World Championship, and Ford Field delivered the sort of punishing night that can turn both races and title fights upside down. The whoops were the key obstacle all evening, and they played a defining role in both Main Events as Roczen and Davies turned them into the section that won the night.

The series now moves to St. Louis on April 4 for Round 12.

Jorge Prado launched to the holeshot in the premier-class Main Event, with Roczen and the returning Chase Sexton immediately in pursuit, while points rivals Hunter Lawrence and Eli Tomac were forced to come through from deeper in the pack.

Roczen moved past Prado in the opening laps and quickly established himself at the front before Prado and Cooper Webb tangled and went down while disputing positions behind him.

That left Roczen to settle into control of the race as Sexton locked into second and Lawrence worked forward after one of his poorer starts of the season.

Lawrence had reduced the gap before crashing hard on the exit of the whoops just before half distance, a fall that sent him through the mechanics area and cost him a lap.

From there, Roczen reasserted himself, rode clear again and took his second win of the season by 7.797 seconds over Sexton, with Malcolm Stewart climbing through for his first podium result of 2026 in third.

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit – Ken Roczen

Justin Cooper finished fourth, Tomac salvaged fifth, Webb recovered to sixth, Prado slipped to 13th, and Lawrence could manage only 18th after another fall later in the race.

The championship picture changed sharply as a result. Tomac’s fifth place was enough to move him back to the top of the 450SX standings on 229 points, four clear of Lawrence on 225, while Roczen’s victory brought him to 215 and kept Webb within range on 203.

With six rounds remaining, Detroit turned the title fight back into a multi-rider contest.

Quotes

Ken Roczen – P1

“I don’t know what to say, but this is exactly what I was talking about [people overlooking my ability to win]. This was a tough Main Event. I was definitely not the fastest in the beginning. I was playing a little bit with the track. I knew they were gaining on me, so I switched up my rhythms slightly. It was tough, because I wasn’t necessarily lighting the world on fire [with my speed] but the track was so tough. The whoops were a 50-50 chance you were going to make it through or end up on your back. I am so excited, you have no idea. We closed up some points, but we still have a lot of racing to go.”

Chase Sexton – P2

Those weeks at home watching the races, there were some dark times. Obviously, I didn’t want to get injured and didn’t want to sit on the couch, but I wanted to come back when I was ready. I felt pretty good tonight, but I also felt that couch about 10 minutes into the Main Event. I felt good in the beginning and got a little tight and a little winded. We’ll go back to work but definitely a great start to the comeback. It’s been a long year for the team and me, but we want to go up from here.”

Malcolm Stewart – P3

“It’s been tough after we had that unfortunate situation in Anaheim to start the season. After that, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I am going to get on the podium,’ and that’s just part of not believing in yourself. But I had to pull myself out of that and I want to give it up to Nathan Ramsey and the team – they’ve been in my ear all year long saying, ‘Hey, you can do this!’ So, a huge shoutout to the whole Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team, and just everyone who is behind me… I’m stoked with this result! The track was really tough tonight and it could bite you if you weren’t paying attention. I had a lot of trust in my motorcycle, which made a huge difference, and having now popped some champagne again, we want more.”

Eli Tomac – P5

“I knew I was going to take advantage of [Hunter Lawrence’s crash] once I saw that he was a lap down, but overall it was a bit of a frustrating day here. I have actually struggled here with my last couple of rides, so I don’t know what it is – I just haven’t had the best success at Detroit lately and maybe I’ve been in a bit of a mid-season slump. So, we’ll do what we can to get better and improve, and try to get back to winning some races and getting closer to the front.”

Jorge Prado – P13

“Detroit Supercross was a bit of a rough day! The Heat Race was actually not too bad. At the end of it, I found a good rhythm and was feeling good. In the Main Event, I had a super-good start – I got the holeshot, which was my main goal – and then I wanted to stay up front for as long as possible. Kenny [Roczen] passed me on, I think Lap 3, and then once he passed me, I really tried to stick with him, but another rider ended up taking me out and we both crashed. That impacted my rhythm from there, so we have some work to do – as always – but I am putting in maximum effort with my training and racing, so hopefully it’ll pay off soon. We’re taking a lot of this year’s Supercross championship as experience for next year, so it’s good that these things happen now so when we’re fighting up front in the coming years, we can be prepared and ready. It’s part of the process – we’ll learn and continue to get faster.”

250 Main

The Eastern Divisional 250 Main began with Nate Thrasher taking the holeshot ahead of Seth Hammaker and Jo Shimoda, while championship leader Cole Davies was buried in 15th on the opening lap.

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit

Thrasher’s night then unravelled in the whoops, handing the lead to Hammaker, but by that point Davies was already beginning one of the rides of the season.

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit

Using the whoops better than anyone else, the New Zealander carved through the field, reached the top five before halfway, then dismissed Shimoda to move into second.

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit

Once in clear air, Davies rapidly erased Hammaker’s advantage and made the decisive pass in the whoops with just under six minutes remaining. From there, he disappeared, taking a third straight Main Event win by 12.196 seconds.

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit

Hammaker banked an important second place, while Shimoda held on for third after Coty Schock briefly threatened the podium before a mistake of his own in the whoops.

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit

Schock still finished fourth, Henry Miller claimed fifth, Daxton Bennick was sixth, and Nicholas Romano was seventh. Thrasher, after leading early, was classified 21st.

Davies’ Detroit charge gave him 114 points in the East division, nine ahead of Hammaker on 105, with Shimoda now third on 100. Bennick remains well placed in fourth on 87, while Schock rounds out the top five on 77.

Quotes

Cole Davies – P1

“When I don’t perform, I’m pretty hard on myself. Me, my family, and all the people around me put in so much hard work, so when I don’t perform like I know I can I’m pretty hard on myself. But I’m stoked with that Main Event. I know that’s how I can ride. I just put everything together well. I didn’t have a good start, but I made it happen, so I’m stoked with that.”

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit – 250 Podium
Seth Hammaker – P2

“That was a tough race. I got myself off to a pretty good start and was riding okay in the beginning. I knew Cole [Davies] was in the back of the pack but man, he was riding good. Gotta give it up to him. A solid second on the night. I’ve learned from the past not to throw the races away that aren’t there for me. I want to win more than anybody, but you’ve got to know when to pull back and second is what we had tonight.”

2026 AMA Supercross Championship – Round 11 – Detroit – Seth Hammaker
Jo Shimoda – P3

“Honestly, I was just so bad all day. I just couldn’t figure it out. I just have to do better. Nothing was really good for me today, so I’m sorry to my team. We tested all week and I think we’re stepping in the right direction, so we’ve got to keep chasing. We’ll see next weekend.”
