Team Yamaha
Yamaha has unveiled its Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team for the 2026 season, reaffirming a long-term commitment to rebuilding competitiveness in the premier class following several difficult years of mixed results.
Fabio Quartararo, Takahiro Sumi, Massimo Meregalli, Paolo Pavesio, Álex RinsFabio Quartararo and Álex Rins remain as factory riders aboard the YZR-M1, while the broader Yamaha MotoGP project continues to evolve on multiple fronts, including engine architecture, management structure and regulation planning beyond 2026.

2026 Yamaha YZR-M1With the 2027 technical reset now firmly in view, 2026 is shaping up as a pivotal transitional season rather than a simple continuation of the current cycle.
A factory programme in transition
Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP remains a wholly owned factory operation, managed through Yamaha Motor Racing in Europe, with technical input now shared between Japan and Italy. This dual-centre approach has been in place since 2024 and reflects Yamaha’s recognition that a broader development base is required to close the performance gap to Ducati, Aprilia and KTM.
2026 Yamaha YZR-M1The 2025 season was characterised by heavy development work with Yamaha simultaneously racing the existing M1, accelerating work on a new V4-powered prototype, and beginning early concept studies for the 2027 regulations. That parallel development effort continues into 2026, with Yamaha acknowledging that progress will be incremental rather than immediate.

Development will not stop with the bikes shown at launch as Yamaha continues to address weaknesses that have limited race performance in recent seasons.
At the same time, Yamaha is already balancing current performance needs with forward planning for 2027, when MotoGP regulations will shift to 850 cc engines and a control tyre supply from Pirelli. Decisions made during 2026 are expected to feed directly into that next-generation project.
2026 Yamaha YZR-M1Quartararo remains the reference point
Fabio Quartararo enters 2026 still regarded internally as Yamaha’s benchmark rider. The 2021 World Champion has endured several seasons where outright results did not reflect his underlying pace, yet he remains central to Yamaha’s technical direction.
Fabio Quartararo remains Yamaha’s lead reference rider as the factory continues its MotoGP rebuild. After finishing ninth in the 2025 championship with limited podium opportunities, Quartararo’s feedback continues to shape chassis balance, engine delivery and electronic strategy, particularly as Yamaha enters their new V4 era with the YZR-M1.

Álex Rins returns for 2026, aiming to convert flashes of speed into consistent results. Injuries and adaptation challenges have disrupted his recent seasons, but Yamaha continues to value his technical input and racecraft.

Yamaha’s MotoGP effort in 2026 extends beyond the factory garage. The presence of Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP as a full factory-supported satellite operation adds depth to data collection and development, while Yamaha’s official test team remains active through wildcards and private testing opportunities.
This expanded structure marks a significant change from previous seasons and aligns Yamaha more closely with the multi-team strategies employed by its main competitors.
With management stability restored, a broader engineering base in place and multiple development streams running concurrently, Yamaha’s emphasis has shifted from short-term fixes to sustained structural change.
