The first Moto3 sessions in Brazil saw David Almansa once again setting the pace, as he had done on the opening day in Thailand, to get his Brazilian Grand Prix weekend off to the best possible start.
The timed Practice session was shortened by ten minutes after the timetable was altered following a long delay to get on track in the morning, and the fallout from that downpour still played a part with spray and standing water still an issue despite sun since the Moto2 session.
The Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider was looking to build on his race win last round which left him leading the championship, and hit the top of the timesheets with a lap that saw him out of the pits for a final attack before the rest of the pack, leaving him clear track and plenty of time to spot standing water.
As a new track for the class his final 1: 30.260s lap sees him as the new record holder in the class.
The session was close with CODE Motorsports rider Cormac Buchanan building on his morning performance for an impressive second, just 0.003s slower than his fellow KTM rider.
An unknown track and the weather gave a chance for the rookies to shine, with Veda Pratama the best of the newcomers for Honda Team Asia. The Indonesian rider was constantly battling for the top time, finding strong track position to use riders in front as a guide on his way to third.
A much improved Joel Kelso was fourth fastest as he also contends with a switch to Honda after joining the MLav Team, adjusting quickly, with another rookie Rico Salmela, holding his own in the group of four Red Bull bikes circulating together to claim fifth.
Joel Esteban lead briefly on his way to the sixth best time for Level Up - MTA, ahead of session one leader Brian Uriarte in seventh for Red Bull KTM Ajo.
Marco Morelli was the first rider half a second from the lead time in eighth for Aspar, just ahead of rookie Leo Rammerstorfer, with a best run from the Austrian newcomer taking him to ninth.
Casey O’Gorman saw his lap drop slightly over the closing stages but held on to a top 10 start behind his SIC58 Squadra Corse team-mate.
Guido Pini suffered a nasty late crash in turn two, flying in the air. The Leopard rider had done enough for eleventh. The remaining Q2 slots went to early session leader Hakim Danish in 12th for MT Helmets, Valentin Perrone in 13th for Red Bull KTM Tech3 and Max Quiles, who could not run his preferred lines on the wet track, moving into a late 14th.
Not all the riders were as lucky, Scott Ogden had gotten off to a top ten start in the morning but found himself pushed back to 15th by the chequered flag in the second session.
Valencia race winner in 2025 Adrian Fernandez was also out of luck, in 17th on the second Leopard.
Alvaro Carpe had been pushing for a top spot before an out of seat moment, never back in gear the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider finished the day 19th.
After his earlier fall in FP1 Eddie O’Shea appeared to have an issue with his bike, which left him last.

Free Practice 1
The opening session was delayed by an hour for track conditions after another downpour in Goiania, leaving red clay and standing water needing to be cleared from the track before the bikes could run out.
Once given the green light a few tentative laps allowed the riders to test grip levels, which, although the rain returned for the end of the session, were good enough to allow rookie Uriarte to dominate the final fifteen minutes, repeatedly lowering his best to a final 1:32.812s.
At one point the Red Bull KTM rider held over a seconds advantage, such was his confidence in the wet. Quiles final lap saw him climb to second, dropping the gap to 0.394s.
Esteban had been second and improved too as he tried to cut the deficit in third ahead of early session leaders Pini - the best Honda rider - and Buchanan, completing the top five, with the New Zealand rider the first rider over a second away from the lead time.
There was only one faller in the tricky conditions - Eddie O’Shea had a late spill heading towards turn two.
The grid will be one rider lighter as David Munoz sits out the weekend to continue his recovery from the injuries he picked up at the end of last season.
